தமிழால் தமிழ் வாழும்

======================================

Supreme Court Mix up

The mix up by the Supreme court of India is a shame and quite shocking. What is even more shocking is that this case will be heard during first week of May instead during the "mention" time. Why should the four acquitted men spend a minute in jail and forgo their constitutional rights while the convicted enjoy their freedom?

The jurisprudence at the Supreme court is paramount because it has the final say and the judges who decided the case have conveniently retired. As a concerned citizen I would like to see some accountability because in my view, sending someone to jail who was acquitted of a crime is a cruel and unusual punishment.

Hospitals

Doctors in India are becoming quite insensitive to those women who knock on their door for terminating their fetus. Certain female doctors abuse women by pushing them to feel remorse for abortion. What is quite appalling is that there are hospitals in Chennai (I bet through out India) that are affiliated to a religious institution which refuse to provide emergency contraception as well as deny a woman's right to abortion at a very early stage of pregnancy. These hospitals turn them away and try to influence to carry on with the pregnancy which is barbaric and violates a woman's right to life and liberty.

What a shame!

May be the CJI has to be reminded about freedom of speech. Exercising her right to speak was Kushboo's only offense.
No matter what the questions were, her right to speak freely should be paramount. Why is the CJI having a digestion issue when Kushboo did not talk about a particular person? One would wonder if the supreme court would feel the same on the "judge assets" case.

The entire judicial system should feel ashamed for entertaining such a frivolous suit along with the persistent persecution. If the supreme court, quashes the case, one would wonder if the supreme court would order prosecution for judicial misconduct of those judges who accepted those suits to continue in the lower courts.

The whole episode is a mere proof, that victims are always harassed by the entire system and they have to defend themselves at a court for being "victims".

What a shame!

Your safety is our priority - TN Police?

It is heart wrenching to see the video of the grievously injured sub inspector clinging for his life. The Tamil Nadu police department should hang its head in shame. If they can not help one of their own in time, one would wonder their priority to work towards the safety of their fellow citizens.

Their mission statement "To work towards a safe, just, humane and progressive society" is overwhelmingly negated.

Every uniformed officer in the vicinity should be summarily dismissed along with the state ministers who were just making phone calls. Precious minutes were wasted while the injured was struggling on the road. They should have calmed him down and provided him with comfort until some help arrived.

The emergency response system is abysmal and it is high time to overhaul the system. An ambulance van which can not reach a victim within few minutes would turn out to be a hearse van.

The henious crime of attacking the victim is overshadowed by the acts of those who stood there and did nothing to help.

The entire episode makes one thing well loud and clear that there is no value for life in India.

Oath of office - Goof up

I can not imagine any conspiracy theory to the initial administration of oath of office to President Obama by Chief Justice John Roberts. First he called Mr.Obama a senator then he went on to mix the words in the oath as prescribed by the US constitution. I don't want to dismiss the whole episode as a simple mistake. Mr. Roberts showed sheer arrogance to the process and ignorance to the US constitution. People had greater expectation from the constitutional office of the Chief Justice but Mr.Roberts made the entire episode beyond disappointment.

The goof up is similar to an elementary school teacher reading the alphabets in a different order. The position of the chief justice being a higher constitutional post, should not have goofed up the very basic thing. If he can not prepare himself for a process that takes under two minutes, one wonders how he can preside over a lengthy trial. If Mr. Roberts did not want to administer the oath of office or if did not want a black man to be the US president, he could have recused himself by resigning from the post.

The chief justice not only stole the thunder from billions of people watching the inaugural session all around the world but exhibited his contempt towards the will of the American people.

No value for life

It is heart wrenching to see a man in Pondicherry who literally bled to his death. because of lack of medical transport at a major train station. To rub salt in the wound, he was transported in a tricycle. There are so many Indians who die a tragic death like this.

There are no modes of public transport from the train station even though the station is inside the city. The ambulance service in most of the cities are associated with some major hospitals and has different phone numbers to reach them. The golden time to transport an accident victim is orphaned by such a complex process. Until the government comes up with an integrated emergency response apparatus through out the country there will absolutely be no value for life.
