Unholy status to the holy land

When are we going to get rid off our stigma towards a specific religion? I agree that Tirumala Temple is revered as one of the holy Hindu sites, but to make the entire seven hills and its adjoining areas as "Hindu only" zone is barbaric.

Tirumla is in India and it belongs to Indians. Restricting "access" to a specific place based on religion is nonsense. Yes, the tirumala temple is associated with hinduism, but the winding roads built using tax payer's money is not!

I am sure that the TN government will accord a special status to "Velankanni and its adjoining sea shore" and "Nagoor and a portion of coromandel coast" soon as a quid-pro-quo. May be the same thing can happen to Mylapore and Triplicane. They could be split into multiple pieces and each given a special status.

Let's wait and see.

@sriram,
hmm. yeah. TN Government is launching a special honor for Thiruvallikeni too. Removing it from the electorates and attaching it with Chepauck and changing the name to Chepauk. So we might say, Parthasarathi Perumal koil, Chepauk. :(
soungds awesome doesnt it? porbably you may not feel much. but born and brought up in Thiruvallikeni, this news struck me at my throat.

Again, Tirumala has never been government land. It has been the Lord's in documents. So. If the government provides land, water and transport it is also because of the revenue IT generates. Nobody is going to build a route to Kanakakattanpatti. :)

Also. Even mythologically Tirumala is made of Saligramam. Words of Swami Ramanuja. He climbed on His knees for the feet should not touch the hills. So.

I do not think that it was a bad move. Yes I denounce the move despicable as its motive is to create ecclesiastical pockets.

But I rejoice. as a Hindu. Finding a politician who dares to do something like this rather than touting the casteism bill or the reservation policy to do the same.

Vanjula,

I do understand that, this is a touchy subject and I do respect your belief on the land and on the lord.

But I believe more on the lord than the land he resides in. Tirumala is not a vatican city or a Mecca. May be Tirumala temple is not Govt's and is has been in the lord's document but definitely the Seven hills is still inside secular India.

On a technical note,fortunately or unfortunately India is still a secular democracy and not a Hindu state, that means each and every bit of land that India has in its border belongs to Indians not just for Hindus.

Also on a side note, there is a delimitation committee that is "considering" a merger of Thiruvallikeni with Chepauk, and that has not happened yet. And it is not final yet!!

Even if it happens, it is going to be a merger in terms of a Legislative Constituency and not the removal of the place or the pin code that Thiruvallikeni has.

So not matter what, Thiruvallikeni will remain Thiruvallikeni.
