Infrastructure - India Vs China

China started building the Tibet railroad during 2001 across the roof of the world which is thrown open to public a year ahead of schedule. An engineering marvel is built on a year long frozen terrain, spanning 710 miles, reaching 16500 feet, run using sealed rail cars that supply continuous oxygen and speeds up to 60mph. It is a difficult job but was completed with utmost professionalism.

Modern Indian history in this respect is worrisome; Chennai MRTS is a fine example of a relatively simple railroad which is still incomplete even after 30 years of its conception.

With Golden quadrilateral running approximately 3 years behind schedule, India needs to give a tremendous push to its infrastructure projects and catch up.

Why should one compare India with China on all grounds? The two countries are different in different ways. The only two common things between these two countries is the population and lately the economic growth rate (even in that India is more than two decades behind China).

Although my point is not to counter the "inefficiency" of the Indian system. My point is just that the comparison is off.

The question is "Why Not ?". While we were kids at school we had ranking system it requires comparison (within the class). Once we grow up we want to have money, it also requires comparison(with your friends and family). And at a later stage we want to die peacefully, this again requires comparison(with illness and mental state). Comparison is a mere status of quantifying the quality of an entity. If we do not compare we should live our lives as NOMADS.

"Why not?" is a good question. But again, you have the answer for it as well in your own response. You are comparing your mark with your classmates, your salary with your colleagues of similar roles and your retired life with the neighbor in your community. I totally agree with those comparisons.

But comparing China and India just because the whole world does it is not right in all the cases. It is like comparing a house cat with a tiger, though both are "cats".

So India and China should not be compared at all, is that what you are saying? If so, who do we compare India with? I have not compared India and China in my opinion except in the title. I have just put forth the facts about the Tibet Railway(which is 100% government sponsored) and the Golden Quadrilateral(built using the extra cess paid by the Indian Citizens on Petrol and Diesel)

Inefficiency is a measure that you arrive at when something moves away from its optimal performance. In case of the GQ, the inefficiency is "three years behind schedule". That is self-explanatory.

It has nothing to do with China building its elevated train system one year "ahead" of schedule. You are comparing apples with oranges.

I have not compared it at all. I have just mentioned the fact that a totally difficult system was done one year ahead of schedule while a relatively simple Chennai MRTS is taking 30 years. The basic facts make people compare apples with oranges.

To me, X Vs Y means comparing. Your statement is contradictory again :) -
"I have not compared it at all." & "...make people compare apples with oranges.".

PEACE.

See my earlier comments where I have admitted that I have compared it only in the title but not in the content.

"I have not compared India and China in my opinion except in the title."

Well I believe comparison is good because it makes us uneasy about the fact that we are behind China. We have to catch up, we have all the firepower to do that but it is our lethargy and mindset which is the hurdle in the way, we are different as people, society and culture but if we have embrace the new world we better put our acts together else we may claim we are progressing but will always fall behind.
